Environmental research group Manomet has launched a new online tool that will enable companies to improve their environmental, social and governance (ESG) business practices.

The Root360 survey has been developed by Manomet’s Sustainable Economies Program and includes a tool for comparative benchmarking and an interactive analysis tool to help firms make strategic decisions based on ESG factors.

The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete and is free of charge to take the survey and receive an assessment.

Root360 provides a platform for businesses to evaluate how “fit” they are in sustainability terms and see how they compare on the ESG spectrum.

Special features of the programme include a benchmarking tool for comparative analysis and an interactive sustainability SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) Analysis.

Root360 is designed for small and medium-sized firms with impact calculators tied to best management practices to show savings in cost and also resources like greenhouse gas emissions, water and waste.

The platform was designed by Manomet and developed by John Rooks, founder and sustainability consultant for The Soap Group and founder of the award-winning technology start-up Rapport, a cloud-based software that tracks key sustainability metrics for SMEs.

In September last year, Ceres, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Finance Initiative, and the Principles for Responsible Investment Initiative sent an open letter to the International Organization of Securities Commissions, calling for more rigorous ESG disclosure.
